Please read these terms carefully before purchasing or using SciSuite software.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your purchase and use of SciSuite software (GuideMi, WesternBo, ImageXi, ChartEr, SciPanel) and the SciSuite website, provided by Bo Lv ("we", "us", "our"). By purchasing, installing, or using SciSuite, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software or website.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using any SciSuite product, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using the software on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Product Description

SciSuite is a collection of proprietary plugins for Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator designed for scientific figure preparation. The software is delivered as a digital product via electronic download. Products may be updated, modified, or discontinued at our discretion.

3. License Grant

Upon purchase, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use the software for personal or commercial purposes, subject to these Terms. Each license is intended for a single user on a single computer unless otherwise specified at the time of purchase. If you need to use the software on more than one machine, a separate license is required for each.

4. Free Trial

Each SciSuite plugin includes a free trial period with full functionality. The trial does not require payment or a credit card. During the trial period, your use of the software is subject to these Terms. Upon expiration of the trial, you must either purchase a license to continue using the software or uninstall and cease all use.

5. Restrictions

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software
  • Modify, adapt, or create derivative works based on the software
  • Redistribute, sublicense, rent, lease, or lend the software to any third party
  • Remove or alter any copyright notices, trademarks, or other proprietary markings
  • Use the software in any way that violates applicable laws or third-party rights
  • Share, transfer, or resell your license key to any other person

6. Ownership

The software and all copies thereof, including all intellectual property rights, remain the exclusive property of Bo Lv. These Terms grant you a license, not ownership, of the software.

7. Payment and Pricing

All prices are displayed on our website at the time of purchase. Payments are processed securely by our payment processor (Creem, operated by Armitage Labs OÜ), which acts as Merchant of Record. By making a purchase, you also agree to the payment processor's terms.

Prices may include applicable taxes, or taxes may be calculated and added at checkout based on your billing location. All charges are final except as provided in our refund policy below.

8. Refund Policy

We offer a 14-day refund policy for SciSuite purchases, subject to the following conditions:

  • Refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of the original purchase date
  • Refunds are available if the software does not function as described, or if you are unable to use the product for technical reasons we cannot resolve
  • To request a refund, contact us at bolyu@pitt.edu with your order number and a brief explanation
  • Approved refunds will be processed to the original payment method within 5–10 business days
  • Upon refund, your license will be deactivated and you must uninstall and destroy all copies of the software

Refund requests submitted after 14 days may be considered on a case-by-case basis but are not guaranteed.

9. Delivery

SciSuite is delivered electronically. Upon successful payment, you will receive a confirmation email containing your license key and download instructions. Delivery is typically immediate; if you do not receive your license within 24 hours, please contact us.

10. Customer Support

We provide technical support via email at bolyu@pitt.edu. We aim to respond to support requests within 3 business days. Support is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis and does not guarantee resolution of every issue.

11. Updates

We may release updates, patches, or new versions of SciSuite from time to time. Minor version updates (bug fixes and small improvements) are provided free of charge for the lifetime of your license. Major version upgrades that introduce significant new features or architectural changes may require a separate purchase. All updates are subject to these Terms. We are not obligated to provide updates, and we may discontinue support for older versions at our discretion.

12. Third-Party Services and Software

SciSuite integrates with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, which require separate licenses from Adobe Inc. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Adobe.

13. Disclaimer of Warranty

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, OR BE ERROR-FREE.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall Bo Lv be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, loss of research results, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with the use of the software, however caused and on any theory of liability.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms or the software shall not exceed the amount you paid for the software in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bo Lv from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the software in violation of these Terms or applicable law.

16. Termination

These Terms remain in effect until terminated. Your license will automatically terminate without notice if you fail to comply with any provision of these Terms. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the software and destroy all copies in your possession. Sections relating to ownership, warranty disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law survive termination.

17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

18. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision. Your continued use of the software after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
